Final Spring Workshop Addresses Important Topic

FCP will welcome Dr. Lori Stauffer for the final workshop of the FCP 2019 Spring Series for “The Role of Psychoeducation in Treatment and Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse.”

Psychoeducation is one of the key components of Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). This workshop will provide an overview of the components of TF-CBT and a thorough discussion of the role of psychoeducation. Psychoeducation play an important role in both helping children to process abusive experiences and I helping to reduce their risk of future abuse. Psycho- education also plays a crucial role in helping to empower children who have no known history of abuse and reduce their risk of future victimization. The key elements of psychoeducation to be included in treatment and prevention-based work will be taught.

Workshop Objectives

At the end of this activity, the learner will be able to:

· Name the critical elements of psychoeducation related to child sexual abuse

· Describe the components of TF-CBT

· Explain how psychoeducation related to child sexual abuse can be implemented in clinical and education settings.

Presenter: Lori Stauffer, Ph.D., is the founder of Hope for Families, Inc., and the co-author of Let’s Talk about Taking Care of You: An Educational Book about Body Safety for Young Children, “Let’s Talk about Safety Skills for Kids: A Personal Safety Activity Book for Parents and Children” and “Let’s Talk about Coping and Safety Skills: A Workbook About Taking Care of ME!” She has written articles for professional journals including the Journal of Child Sexual Abuse, Child Maltreatment and Child Abuse and Neglect. Dr. Stauffer was an instructor in the Department of Psychiatry at University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey for a decade.

As a psychologist in private practice, Dr. Stauffer provides individual, family, and couples counseling in cognitive behavioral framework; enrichment services including workshops, parent coaching, and outcomes coach- ing; educational presentations and consultations to professionals; and consulting in educational settings and providing teacher/staff in-service programs. She earned her undergraduate degree in Psychology from Franklin and Marshall College and her Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania.
