Service Learning
Summer Youth Corps

Our service-learning concept includes the Summer Youth Corps. The components of this program are:

  • Identification of Bucks County community service needs
  • Intern selection and matching with a host agency
  • Curriculum and supervision
  • Academic linkage to the intern’s college or university
  • Research, publications and communication

FCP is planning an 8-10-week subsidized service-learning opportunity for students who have completed their freshman through junior year at college. Our Summer Youth Corps program is begins in May or June and ends in early to mid-August so that the students can get back to school on time. Our intent is to match each selected applicant with a host agency. We have identified a number of host agencies willing to participate. Our focus is on non-profit human service agencies providing services to children, youth and families in Bucks County.

Undergraduate applicants must be residents of Bucks County for this program. A doctoral level licensed psychologist, a graduate level intern and a site supervisor will provide weekly supervision for students. Successful applicants will spend 32 hours in service activities with the host agency each week and 8 hours of academic and supervision activities. The student will be expected to complete a structured syllabus, including a project paper by the end of the program. Although not a requirement for participation, some academic institutions will be offering credits for these students as independent study or service-learning opportunities. Our expectation is that the curriculum and syllabus are flexible and can be adjusted for each academic institution.

Employment Opportunity for Graduate Assistant

We are also looking for a graduate student to assist in supervision, provide some hands-on services, and participate in workshops and lectures as part of this program. The successful applicant for the graduate student intern position will serve 3-6 months based out of our Doylestown office. This is a paid position and hours are flexible.
