Foundations Presents Workshops on Anxiety in Children, Mood Disorders in Children and Adolescents
Doylestown, PA (Sept. 23, 2008) -0Foundations Community Partnership, a community service organization benefiting youth in Bucks County invites educators, counselors, parents, and mental health professionals to attend their fall workshops.
"Strategies for Anxious Children: Shrinking Worries, Drawing on Strengths" will be covered on Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008. Presenter Tamar Chansky, Ph.D. is author of "Freeing Your Child from Anxiety: Powerful, Practical Solutions to Overcome Your Child's Fears, Worries and Phobias" and Founder and Director of the Children's Center for OCD and Anxiety in Plymouth Meeting, PA. She will discuss anxiety and how it creates a sense of urgency for children and for the people who work with them. This workshop will present creative scripts and metaphors for teaching children with anxiety and OCD powerful cognitive-behavioral techniques to overcome the obstacles created by thinking errors and avoidance.
"Rather than the temporary measure of reassuring children, our goal is to teach children the tricks that the anxious brain can play," says Dr. Chansky.

Foundations Community Partnership brings Elizabeth A. Kastelic, M.D. from Johns Hopkins to present on Mood Disorders in Children & Adolescents on Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008. Dr. Kastelic is Assistant Professor, Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Johns Hopkins Hospital and Director of the Young Adult & Adolescent Affective Disorders Service at Johns Hopkins. She conducts research funded by NIMH and Co-Investigator of the Adolescent Awareness Program (ADAP).
Mood disorders are common treatable illnesses that often have their onset in youth. The presentation of mood disorders vary based on age. For young people, mood disorders may adversely impact education, family life, work and friendships. This presentation will focus on the common presentations, symptoms, prevalence, clinical course, and treatment of mood disorders in youth.
Workshops are held from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the Health & Wellness Center Auditorium, 847 Easton Rd./Rt. 611 in Warrington, PA. Refreshments will be served. There is a $45 fee to attend each program. Breakfast and registration will take place at 8:30 a.m. Since our workshops tend to sell out, please register in advance by calling 267-247-5584. Continuing education credits will be offered for Social Workers, Nurses, Licensed Professional Counselors, Psychologists, NBCC Counselors, and Act 48 credits.
